CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY
The Campus
The KAUST campus and community are situated in a unique coastal location near the fishing village of Thuwal, 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Jeddah. The total area spans more than 36 million square meters, including a unique coral reef ecosystem that the University will preserve as a marine sanctuary.
The campus will incorporate a distinctive blend of traditional regional architecture and modern styles and amenities, evoking ancient centers of learning within a context of high-tech science and engineering facilities.

Environmental stewardship is a critical component of KAUST's campus development. KAUST is constructing the campus and community to have a minimal environmental footprint and high aesthetic impact.
The KAUST Community
Adjacent to the academic core and research laboratories, the Harbor District commercial center will provide numerous opportunities for work/life balance, including a wide variety of shops and waterfront apartments lining the Safaa Canal.
