KAUST at COP28
from 30 November until 12 December
Dubai, UAE
KAUST is sending an important delegation of our experts and professionals to participate in this important gathering, which will take place in Dubai from 30 November until 12 December.
Several KAUST experts will also take a leading role in the third edition of the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) Forum. This year's event will occur on 4 December, during COP28 at Expo City, Dubai, reinforcing Saudi Arabia's ongoing support of the global climate agenda and the Kingdom's commitment to overcoming environmental challenges through measurable action.
Participating in COP28 and the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) Forum demonstrates KAUST's commitment to accelerating impact and discovering tomorrow's opportunities and highlights the caliber of respected scientific minds within our University and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Over the next couple of weeks, as our experts take to their panels and speaker slots on the ground in Dubai, we will share insights and showcase our technology across the conference and at our booth in the Innovation Zone.
Some of our technology on display includes Professor Raquel Peixoto's coral probiotics dispenser, Professor William Roberts's Cryogenic Carbon Capture, and the sustainable concrete solution developed by Professor Jorge Gascon and his team.
Just some other key highlights of KAUST's representation at COP28 and the SGI are:
- Professor Hussein Hoteit will be talking at the Ministry of Energy in the Blue Zone about CO2 mineralization on 3 December, as well as at SGI in the Green Zone for a talk on December 6. His research will also feature in the KAUST booth at the Innovation Zone.
- Professors Carlos Duarte and Raquel Peixoto will showcase their latest research and engagement efforts to protect coral reefs, one of the most threatened aquatic ecosystems due to climate change, and hotspots of marine biodiversity.

KAUST EXPERTS AT COP28
Our experts will connect with the public, industry, NGOs, and government entities through a series of meetings, panel discussions, and technology showcases designed to promote dialogue and inform policies that address current climate challenges, model future scenarios, and enable adaptive management strategies. These engagements contribute to advancing climate action efforts and all related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). KAUST delegates will also meet with representatives from the Kingdom’s flagship projects, such as NEOM and Red Sea Global, creating opportunities to build stronger synergies with industry partners and prospective collaborators worldwide.
As the weeks progress, you may see our presence in Dubai covered in the news or on KAUST's social media. Wherever we are represented, our message will be the same: climate change brings challenges that affect the whole world, and we want to play our part in helping overcome them.
