KAUST collaboration to benefit life sciences and nanotechnology research

KAUST is advancing research collaboration in life sciences, artificial intelligence, robotics, rehabilitation technologies and nanotechnologies following the signing of an agreement with the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) during the official visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Saudi Arabia. 

This agreement aims to establish a long-term partnership between KAUST and IIT, focusing on joint research projects that will harness the strengths of both institutions. The agreement includes provisions for academic exchanges for students and researchers, as well as the organization of scientific events to facilitate the transfer of innovative research outcomes to industry. 

This partnership is instrumental in accelerating innovation and addressing global challenges through the integration of advanced technology and scientific expertise. 

KAUST Vice President for Research Professor Pierre Magistretti, said: “This agreement with IIT underscores our commitment to pioneering research in impactful fields. By partnering with IIT, we aim to expedite the development of solutions that tackle some of the most pressing issues facing our world today in life sciences and robotics.” 

Professor Gianluca Setti, Dean of the Computer, Electrical, Mathematical Sciences and Engineering (CEMSE) Division at KAUST, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “This partnership perfectly aligns with KAUST’s strategy to foster innovation through collaborative research. By combining our key expertise in areas such as AI and nanotechnologies with IIT’s renowned research capabilities, we will generate real-world applications that benefit not only Saudi Arabia but also the global community.” 

The signing of this MoU reflects KAUST’s ongoing commitment to fostering international collaborations that enhance its research capabilities and contribute to scientific advancements. Through this partnership with IIT, KAUST looks forward to making significant contributions to innovation and addressing key challenges in various industries.
