KAUST President Tony Chan will join thought leaders for a panel discussion named: 'Between East and West.' The presidents will engage in a discussion on the challenges faced, and opportunities taken, to lead their institutions in the increasingly convoluted and complex world of the 21st century.

Chan's co-panelists are Eng Chye Tan and Da Hsuan Feng. Tan is a mathematician and the President of the National University of Singapore (NUS). He obtained his Ph.D. at Yale before joining NUS as a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics. He is also a member of the World Economic Forum's Global University Leaders Forum, a community of presidents of the world's 29 top universities. 

Da Hsuan Feng is a theoretical physicist. He completed a Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota before becoming M. Russell Wehr Professor of Drexel University and Vice President of Research of University of Texas at Dallas. He spent 7 years in Taiwan as Senior Vice President of National Cheng Kung University and National Tsing Hua University. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and Honorary Professor of 15 top Chinese universities.

Collectively, they have personal and administrative experience in both the Western and Asian higher education ecosystems, including the U.S., Singapore, Hong Kong, the Middle East, and beyond. And they have led institutions in Asia that have risen rapidly within a short time to a global standing comparable with the best in the world. This vantage point gives them a special perspective on the changing global higher education landscape.
