KAUST Distinguished Professor of Chemical Science, Nikos Hadjichristidis, has been awarded the H.F. Mark Medal from the Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology. The annual award honors outstanding individuals in the area of polymer science.

The H.F. Mark Medal is awarded in Honor of the Austrian-American chemist Professor Hermann Franz Mark, who is regarded as a pioneer of modern polymer science and is one of the co-founders of the Journal of Polymer Science.

"Professor Hadjichristidis is one of the world's leading researchers in the synthesis of model polymers with different macromolecular architectures. He has made exceptional pioneering contributions that encompass the full spectrum of the field, from fundamental scientific discovery to industrial applications," said Ravi Samtaney, dean of the Physical Science and Engineering division at KAUST.

Hadjichristidis leads the KAUST Polymer Synthesis Lab. He has contributed significantly to the development of polymer science, in particular on the synthesis of novel homopolymers, copolymers and hybrids (polymers/polypeptides, polymers/CNT) with well-defined complex macromolecular architectures by anionic polymerization (AP) high vacuum techniques and combinations of AP with other polymerization methodologies.

Hadjichristidis will be presented with the Medal at the OFI Award Ceremony in Vienna, Austria in October, 2020.
