Our 2015 Winter Enrichment Program (#WEP2015) is off to a great start. The 2015 keynotes cover myriad topics and are delivered by international experts and award winners. Here’s a look at the 2015 keynotes and some of the events happening during the second week of the program:
Caltech’s Anthony Readhead shows how the current renaissance in low frequency radio astronomy is enabling small groups of radio astronomers to study the last frontiers of cosmology, and how Saudi Arabia is optimally placed to be a major player in this exciting new field.
Enter the colorful world of Tingatinga: East Africa’s exciting, exotic painting style (January 18 – 24, University Library). This exhibition will showcase the latest work by Mshana, Juma, Rashid and Kipara Mzuguno, the four painter sons of the late Tanzanian master Tingatinga painter David Mzuguno. Enter a magic world of blue elephants and green giraffes roaming through traditional African villages hidden in tropical jungles as man and beast live in harmony with nature.
The Science Fair is a chance for our scientific community to come together and show their work through demonstrations and experiments, from school kids to postdocs and faculty.
If you could know anything about a city, what would you want to know? Mike Holland of the Center for Urban Science + Progress illuminates how new data tools can provide a more scientifically rigorous understanding of how major urban systems operate, how they interact, and how they can be optimized to improve the quality of city life.
Adventurer Michael Martin uses photography and film to take us on his travels across the deserts and polar regions of the world, exploring the severity, beauty and commonality of these remote and beautiful parts of our planet.
Join us in the auditorium for a stunning final WEP event. BELLA GAIA is an awe-inspiring live multimedia performance fusing stunning NASA visualizations of earth from space with live music and dance from around the world.
