About the Center of Excellence


The Center of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Storage Technologies aims to develop renewable energy and storage technologies that help Saudi Arabia achieve its environmental and economic goals as set out in the Kingdom’s Vision2030 Strategy. Through strategic partnerships, cutting-edge research and workforce training, the Center will spearhead the prototyping and commercialization of renewable energy and storage solutions that secure the Kingdom’s industrial competitiveness and empower its ambition to expand into new sustainability-centered economic sectors.

Welcome Message from the Chair


“The establishment of a new Center dedicated to renewable energy and storage technologies in the Kingdom will serve as a significant catalyst for creating a positive economic impact. The economic benefits include mitigating the costs and devastation of climate change, enhancing energy security, developing the skilled workforce, creating jobs and improving quality of life and human health.”

Research and Translation Areas

The Center will focus on prototyping and scaling activities of homegrown technologies in advanced photovoltaics, new battery chemistries, lithium extraction and battery recycling, advanced cooling technologies, energy storage in chemical fuels and electricity regeneration, as well as testing, modeling and integration of energy storage technologies.

Training and Outreach


The Center for Renewable Energy and Storage Technologies offers workforce development programs to support the growth of the Kingdom's emerging renewable energies sector. Our efforts in this direction include Saudi graduate student recruitment, internships for undergraduates, hosting guest faculty, summer schools, certification programs, online courses, in-Kingdom seminars at Saudi Universities and an annual conference.
