Postdoctoral fellows explain why KAUST is an ideal place to pursue research and jumpstart a career.
Postdoctoral fellows play a vital role in helping to tackle global problems like climate change. In this video you will hear about Marco Fusi’s research into the carbon storage capacity of mangroves, Andrea Anton’s work on the thermal optimal limits of corals, and Yi Jin Liew’s studies on the coral epigenome.
“My suggestion to those who want to join KAUST is to come with big ideas” said Marco Fusi, a postdoctoral fellow in the Red Sea Research Center. Along with colleagues and fellow postdocs, Andrea Anton and Yi Jin Liew, the marine scientists shared insights into what drives their research and explained why KAUST is an ideal place to pursue their career goals.
“It’s unique to KAUST that you can, as a postdoc, come in and immediately jump into research,” said Andrea. "The funding, laboratory and equipment infrastructures at KAUST make it easy for researchers to focus solely on their projects."
Saudi Arabia’s coastal ecosystem is exposed to an extreme gradient of temperature and salinity, so it’s an ideal test case for how global warming will affect other places in the world in the future.
“If you’re doing marine science, the Red Sea offers you a very different ocean compared to what you can find everywhere else,” said Yi Jin Liew.
