The KAUST Winter Enrichment Program (WEP) 2024 is happening from January 7 to 18. This year's theme, "Digital Adventure – ride to the future," will highlight arguably the most rapidly changing era in history. Of special attention will be the effects of AI on our health and wellness, environment, energy and economies. There will also be discussions on how we can ensure AI will have positive effects on our lives and avoid the dystopia foreseen in literature and film.
Experts will cover multiple domains and give perspectives not just on the academic and scientific opportunities, but on the entrepreneurial and cultural opportunities and effects AI will have.
Xin Gao, Professor of Computer Science and Interim Director of the Computational Bioscience Research Center, and Michael Berumen, Professor of Marine Science and Director of the Red Sea Research Center, are this year's chairs.
Since its inception in 2009, WEP has become a cornerstone of KAUST's academic calendar. The annual two weeks of lectures, panel discussions and workshops aim to do more than educate; they promote collaboration, stimulate innovation and awaken passion. Since its inception, WEP has hosted more than 1500 speakers and more than 1 million people have attended either in person or online.
