The highly anticipated list identifies scientists who produced multiple papers ranking in the top 1% by citations for their field and year of publication, demonstrating significant research influence among their peers.

The methodology that determines the who's who of influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts from the Institute for Scientific Information at the Web of Science Group.

"KAUST is extremely proud to have 9% of our faculty on this list. This is an extraordinary result, placing KAUST among the top universities in the world for the most highly cited faculty in relation to faculty size, and to achieve this recognition in a short 10 years is remarkable," says President of KAUST Dr. Tony Chan.

"The Highly Cited Researchers list contributes to the identification of that small fraction of the researcher population that contributes disproportionately to extending the frontiers of knowledge and to have outsized impact. These researchers create gains for society, innovation and knowledge that make the world healthier, richer, more sustainable and more secure," President Chan continues.

This year the list includes 6,217 Highly Cited Researchers in various fields from nearly 60 nations. The data are taken from 21 broad research fields within Essential Science Indicators, a component of InCites.

"We are delighted to have the dedication, hard work and scientific achievements of our eminent faculty recognized by the Web of Science Group," says Distinguished Professor Donal Bradley, Vice President for Research at KAUST.

"This is testament to the fact that KAUST attracts top international faculty and students to conduct fundamental and goal-oriented research to address the world's pressing scientific and technological challenges," Professor Bradley continues.
