​KAUST Distinguished Professor Pierre Magistretti, Director of the newly launched Smart-Health Initiative, took part in a virtual event put on by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Investment.

The event, named the U.S.-Saudi Arabia Business Leaders Virtual Forum, featured a high-profile list of speakers including U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Suzanne Clark; Saudi Minister of Investment H.E. Khalid Al-Falih; Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the U.S. H.R.H. Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud; Dow Chairman and CEO Jim Fitterling; SABIC Vice Chairman and CEO Yousef Al Benyan; NEOM CEO Nadhmi Al-Nasr; and many others.

Magistretti took part in a panel discussion titled "Healthcare Innovation and Biotech—Supporting Economic Recovery and Improving Quality of Life." Magistretti joined Pfizer President for Africa and the Middle East Patrick Van Der Loo; Abbott Vice President for Infectious Disease and Emerging Markets Damian Halloran; K.S.A. Ministry of Investment Business Development Advisor Dr. Sara Althari; and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President for the Global Innovation Policy Center Patrick Kilbride.

KAUST Smart-Health Initiative

The recently launched KAUST Smart-Health Initiative (SHI) is dedicated to the development and use of smart, health technologies and methods to promote translational health research programs that transform fundamental scientific discoveries into practical clinical tools and solutions for prevalent diseases.

In collaboration with top hospitals and Medical schools in the Kingdom, the KAUST SHI will launch programs to train the new generation of clinicians and scientists, who will become experts in the usage and application of precision medicine tools and principles. The goal is that these trainees will lead the way to translate fundamental findings in the laboratory to diagnostic and treatment tools to tackle various diseases with local and global impact.
