Zesheng Dong has a passion for science, travel and the game of tennis. Dong graduated from KAUST in 2011 with a master's degree in chemical science and has been working as a chemical scientist for the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) since November 2011 at the SABIC Technology Center in Jubail.
At SABIC, he works in the chemical and environment lab providing analytical support, with the goal of continually improving the accuracy and efficiency of the company's research.
Dong completed a bachelor's degree in chemistry at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, in 2010 before joining KAUST. He describes his time at the University as extremely beneficial both personally and professionally.
"I had a good time at KAUST. My life there was simple: study, work in the lab, exercise—I liked that period in my life," he said. "Study at KAUST helped prepare me for my career. Because of KAUST, I got the job opportunity in SABIC, which for me is one of the best companies in the world," he noted.
Dong's advice to current KAUST students is to follow their hearts and trust that the rest will follow.
"Study and do your research with all your heart. It is always helpful if you master more knowledge, and then the following will come to you at the right time. Follow your heart and do what makes you happy," he said.
