Meet Some of Our Students
Yue Guan
Deep-Sea Brine Pool Research
Yue Guan is fascinated by extremophiles and how they cope with harsh environments. She is currently investigating microbial diversity in the deep-sea anoxic brine pools of the Red Sea.
Mohanned Al Ghamdi
Optimizing the Water Desalination Process
Founding student Mohanned Al Ghamdi's current research focuses on innovative cleaning methods for low-pressure hollow-fiber membranes.
Abeer Al-Saggaf
Solid-state optical devices
Abeer, a Saudi Masters student in Electrical Engineering, is working on smart lighting systems. Her objective is to design efficient circuits to power those devices. She describes KAUST as a researcher's heaven.
Philippe Vignal
Predicting material properties
A PhD candidate in Material Science and Engineering at KAUST, Philippe is interested in step study of how a solid becomes a liquid. It's essentially a mathematical way of interpreting phase transitions. He also enjoys scuba diving.
Anna Roik
Coral Reef Formation Processes
At KAUST, Anna works closely with her advisor, Dr. Christian Voolstra on environmental monitoring of the Saudi Red Sea coral reefs.
Gouda Chen
Data Mining
Gouda Chen is from China where he studied computer science at Sun Yat Sen University.
Stefan Grotzinger
Analyzing the potential of organisms
Stefan came to KAUST after completing his bachelor's and master's degrees in his native Germany.
Garrett McKerricher
Optimizing ceramic materials
Garrett is pursuing his PhD in Electrical Engineering. He can often be found in the clean room lab at KAUST working on fabricating electronics. Garrett is focusing on improving the traditional way of fabricating electronics and also to print them.
Ahmed Al-Saggaf
Solar and Photovoltaics Engineering
Ahmed Al-Saggaf is investigating a cost effective way to industrialize the process of making solar cells, especially in Saudi Arabia, using a roll to roll printer.
Bedour Al Sabban
Catalysis Research Center
Bedour Al-Sabban, a Saudi from Makkah, is a wife, a mother of three young children, and a PhD student in chemistry at KAUST.
Michael Margineanu
An interdisciplinary approach to science
Originally from Romania, Michael is pursuing a Masters in Bioscience. His research aims to use nanoparticles for cancer treatment.
